Quirky Quiz Time

Hey, hey, hey it’s SPARKS writing day!  Today I am challenging you to write a Quirky Quiz for the class.  (This is the writing activity for today and tomorrow). I have written one for you and put it on a google doc (see the link below).  Can you work out my answers?   Be ready to share a question at our Zoom catch up tomorrow. Nikau’s Quirky Quiz Your job is to choose a letter and write your own ‘Quirky Quiz.’  Follow the same format as mine.  I think the easiest way is to copy and paste my one underneath, then delete my words and replace them with your own. By the end of this activity we should have lots of quizzes on the same Google Doc.  Remember if you make a mistake and delete something, don’t panic, just type command z and it will reappear. Your challenge today is to use a challenging word in your quiz that will make people think, e.g. mantelpiece.

Maths Challenge When I was out walking I saw these letter boxes and thought they might make a cool challenge. 1.  Are these numbers odd or even?  How do you know? 2. What is the total if you added all these numbers together?  What strategy are you using?  I wonder if there is a quicker way of doing it? 3.  What is the total of all these numbers if you treated them as single numbers  ( 3,7,5,3,7,7,3,7,9)  Are there combinations of numbers that make it easier for adding? EXTRA FOR EXPERTS   4. What is the smallest number you can make using + or - ? e.g. 375+377-379=
