Lockdown Learning

Pelagia was inspired by yesterday's
scribble to create this snake
(wearing glasses).
Here are many more examples of our learning during lockdown.  Thanks for sharing, it helps us keep connecting as a class.

Tahlia spent a lot of time on
creating a lego marble run.
See her success in the video below
Ewan created an amazing suspension
bridge that could hold two large books.

Time for a Terrific Tuesday

Hi everyone, plenty of choices today.  I hope there are a lot of activities that motivate you to keep your brain and body active.  If you feel like a quiet day, just find a comfortable spot and curl up with a book for awhile.  Don't forget to be kind and helpful to the others in your bubble.

Maths:
Really make the most of this time to go over your basic facts.  Revisit the basic addition and subtraction fact links under Useful Websites.
And/or…
Play a game of Twenty-Seven as another way to practise simple addition (under Useful Websites).
And/or…
Play What’s the Target Number? Today’s target number is 52 or 144 (you choose).  Now set a time (you choose) and quickly write on some paper all the ways you can think of to ‘make that number’, using any or all of the operations of + - x or ÷.

Exercise:
Do the What’s your name? workout.  Use the names of your family members.  If you are feeling energetic use first names, surnames and middle names (click on image to enlarge).
And/or…
Click on the link to Jump Jam and scroll down to The Witch Doctor.

Be Creative:
Make a chair with items you have around the home (e.g., books, paper, boxes.  See if your bear that was part of the Bear Hunt (or any soft toy) can sit in it.
And/or…
Think about what you can create with just a dot.  Get some paper, draw a circle.  Now you have a dot.  Make something out of your dot.
Read or write:
Complete the Quirky Quiz #2 created by Mrs Alexander.  Link under Useful Websites.  You will need to record these on a piece of paper or on another doc.  Feel free to send to me or check the answers with family members.
And/or…
Listen to the rap of The Lorax under Useful Websites and create your own rap of a well known story.  It could be a fairy-tale, a legend or about a movie.  Any well-known story.  Entertain family members when performing your rap.

very cute.

Noah used lego to create this marble run.
Impressive detail.

Creative Learning in Nikau

Hi everyone, thanks for sharing and checking in with me.  Today I just wanted to share some of the creativity that has been happening during the lockdown.  Pretty impressive:)
Angel has been making 3D models of
dragonflies and butterflies out of wire.

Angel also baked these delicious looking apple pies
Here is some art Noah S completed on
Friday Fun Day.

Dantae has designed this video game
where the aim is for mother kid to eat
all of the food before the food
invades every base.

Term 2, Week 2 Online Learning

Kia ora koutou.  I hope you are all well.  Your online learning for Monday is ready to go:)  This week some of the learning will include raps, quizes, poetry and ANZAC activities.  Woo hoo!  Feel free to pick and choose activities from previous posts as well.  Remember I can see what you choose to do on Studyladder and Prodigy:)  Try and challenge yourselves, you all understand how important that is in helping your brain to grow.  By keeping your mind and body active, you will be good to go when we see each other again.

Maths:
Place value
Practise place value and your understanding of large numbers by going to the 6 digit learning object link under Useful Websites (you might want to try the 3 digit learning object link first). Click on the dice at the bottom, then use the arrows at the top to make the number given. Click the question mark to check your answer.
Make at least 10 numbers correctly.
And/or…
Go onto to Studyladder or Prodigy for 20 minutes.  On Studyladder focus on rapid recall activities or mental strategies.  Try the multiplication basic facts.
Exercise:
Let’s go for high energy today.
Use the Useful Websites links and try PE with Joe

And/or…

Work out to the She Bangs routine by clicking on the Jump Jam link and scrolling down.
Be Creative:
Design a marble maze out of lego, cardboard or anything around the house.
And/or…

Use this scribble or one of your own and turn it into something.  What could it be?

Read or write:
Complete the Quirky Quiz #1 created by Mrs Alexander.  Link under Useful Websites.  You will need to record these on a piece of paper or on another doc.  Feel free to send to me or check the answers with family members.
And/or...

More Catching up with the Team

Hi everyone, I have received so many emails about some great lockdown learning.  Nikau students have been making sleep-outs, playing chess, writing lock-down stories, creating some Dude Perfect Challenges, and a lot of you have been cooking up a storm.  Today it was Mr Greep's birthday and I made a giant cake that feeds 16 just for the three of us!!  Don't worry there is still a lot left:)  Here are some more members of the Nikau team engaged in some great lockdown learning.  Have a great weekend, see you on Monday:)
